Gejala dan pencegahan penyakit Karies pada Gigi

(Gejala dan pencegahan penyakit KariesGigi) – Karies Gigi adalah penyakit jaringan pada gigi yang sering dijumpai. Penyakit tersebut biasanya ditandai dengan kerusakan pada jaringan keras gigi (lubang pada gigi).

Adanya bakteri dalam mulut merupakan sesuatu hal yang wajar. Namun, jika bakteri tersebut berlebihan akan menjadi masalah kesehatan tersendiri terutama pada gigi. Bakteri mampu mengubah semua sisa-sisa makanan khususnya gula menjadi asam. Asam yang terbentuk akibat bakteri tersebut akan memicu penumpukan lapisan dan melekat di gigi yang biasa disebut dengan plak.

Plak akan biasanya akan terbentuk kurang lebih 20 menit setelah mengkonsumsi makanan. Zat asam lemak yang terdapat pada plak mampu melarutkan jaringan keras pada gigi sehingga terjadilah karies. Streptococcus mutans disebut-sebut sebagai bakteri yang sangat berperan dalam pembentukan karies.

Gejala awal Karies Gigi
Karies gigi ditandai dengan adanya lubang kecil yang terdapat pada jaringan keras gigi, biasanya berwarna hitam atau coklat. Gigi yang berlubang biasanya akan terasa sakit sampai lubang tersebut membesar dan mengenai sistem persyarafan pada gigi.

Jika seseorang terkena karies cukup dalam, maka ia akan merasakan ngilu jika gigi terkena rangsang panas, manis dan dingin. Jika kondisi ini dibiarkan berlarut-larut, karies akan semakin membesar hingga kamar pulpa akan terjadi proses peradangan sehingga efeknya akan menyebabkan rasa sakit gigi yang berdenyut.

Pulpa adalah rongga bagian dalam gigi yang berisi pembuluh darah dan jaringan syaraf. Parahnya lagi, jika keadaan ini dibiarkan saja maka infeksi bakteri akan menyebabkan kematian pada jaringan dalam kamar pulpa serta menginfeksi jaringan tulang penyangga gigi yang menjadi faktor utama penyebab abses.

Pemeriksaan Penyakit Karies Gigi
Biasanya pemeriksaan awal penyakit ini adalah pemeriksaan klinis yang diserta dengan pemeriksaan menggunakan radiografik jika memang dibutuhkan, melakukan tes sensitivitas gigi yang dicurigai sudah terjangkit nekrosis dan tes perkusi yang berfungsi untuk mengetahui apakah infeksi sudah mencapai jaringan penyangga gigi.

Pencegahan Penyakit Karies Gigi

• Melakukan pembersihan terhadap gigi. Pembersihan gigi dapat dilakukan dengan cara menyikat gigi menggunakan pasta gigi yang mengandung fluoride minimal dua kali sehari yakni, setelah sarapan pagi dan menjelang tidur. Lebih efektif lagi jika setelah mengkonsumsi makanan membiasakan berkumur dengan tujuan menghilangkan sisa-sisa makanan yang melekat pada gigi.
• Membersihkan gigi dari sisa makanan yang tersangkut diantara celah-celah gigi, paling tidak dilakukan sehari sekali.
• Hindari mengkonsumsi makanan atau minuman yang terlalu lengket dan manis termasuk minuman manis bersoda.
• Melakukan pemeriksaan atau perawatan gigi dengan cara mengunjungi klinik gigi terdekat setidaknya 6 bulan sekali.
• Berikan asupan nutrisi yang lengkap pada diet ibu hamil. Hal ini bertujuan untuk membantu pembentukan gigi pada janin yang biasanya diawali pada trimester kedua.
• Penggunaan rutin fluoride baik secara lokal atau sistemik.

Pencegahan serangan Karies pada anak-anak
Membersihkan Gigi Bayi Setelah Menyusui. Untuk menghindari terjangkitnya sakit gigi pada anak sebaiknya dilakukan sejak dini. Salah satu cara paling efektif untuk mencegah karies adalah setelah bayi minum air susu ibu (ASI), caranya adalah membersihkan gigi bayi dengan menyeka menggunakan kapas yang sudah dibasahi dengan air bersih. Hal ini dikarenakan meskipun hanya minum sedikit ASi, namun ASI ternyata mengandung kadar gula. Dengan membersihkan kariesnya setelah menyusui akan menjadi salah satu pencegahan karies yang utama.

Setelah mengetahui betapa mudahnya Karies Gigi (Gigi berlubang) menjalar pada gigi, sebaiknya sejak sedini mungkin mengajarkan anak rajin membersihkan gigi untuk menerapkan pola hidup sehat pada anak, jika sudah rutin dan terbiasa membersihkan gigi sejak dini maka nantinya akan reflek memberikan perhatian terhadap kebersihan mulut dan giginya.
